Shino Glaze Bowl by Takumi Kiln
Shino-yaki is known for its milky-white glaze. Named for its Shino glaze, which ranges from snowy white to deep cream and on to grey and even scarlet scorch marks— and thick, curdled texture that often shows small holes. It is believed to be the first Japanese pottery style to decorate its pieces with brush-drawn designs.
Shino ware was widely sought after for its humble aesthetic and suited the wabi-sabi aesthetics of the Zen Buddhist tea masters and connoisseurs.
