Noren Curtain by Keisuke Serizawa

Thease are a series of noren curtains  featuring designs by Japanese dyeing craft artist Serizawa Keisuke. 

Serizawa developed the technique of form dyeing and completed its own pattern drawing. In 1956, it was selected as an important intangible cultural heritage (human national treasure), in 1976 as a national cultural herigate 

The versatile beauty world has been acknowledged as "the rare arts high rise of the kind", and now it is increasing its name as SERIZAWA in the world. The powerful and bold composition, vivid coloring, influenced by the red mold the learnt in Okinawa, and works filled with strong individuality and rich creative power continue to appeal to people's hearts.

Design Options:

1.Willow or Yanagi is one of the simple and elegant motifs Serizawa liked and used often.

2. Four Seasons - abeautifully simple presentation of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter characters.

3. Rope Curtain is one of the designs that represented  Serizawa's innovative idea of ​​drawing rope ina noren. The original is in the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of Art. 

About Keisuke Serizawa

He was born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1895 and designated a Living National Treasure for the textile art of “Kataezome”, an important intangible cultural heritage, and people around the world and in Japan appreciate him as a craftsman representing the 20th century. He had widely established new fields such as Kimono, bookbinding, calendar, signboard and lighting design.
